It starts but after it starts either the engine shuts down or it stays running but the engine shakes badly.

Hi,

This can be the result of a few things. First, is there any dark black or gray smoke from the exhaust? Also, are there any odd odors or sounds?

Next, have you checked for engine vacuum leaks? That can cause a rough idle. Here is a link that explains how to check:

Also, have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

I don't know if the vehicle is drivable at all, but if it is, most parts stores will scan it free of charge.

What happens when you press the throttle? Do the RPM increase?

Let me know as much as you can.

Take care,

Joe

No smoke at all from the exhaust and no odors or sounds. When I press the throttle, the tachometer needle doesn’t go past 2.

Is the check engine light staying on when it runs? Also, could you record it cranking and starting and upload it for me to hear?

This sounds like it could be a few different issues, but I need to know if you have scanned the computer for codes. Since the vehicle is newer, you should scan the can-bus system. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all the computers/modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them. Here is a link showing how it is done:

This is where I recommend starting the diagnostics. If you can get it done, let me know what codes are found. They should point me in the right direction.

Also, the video may help as well. Make sure to check for any vacuum leaks as I mentioned, specifically the air induction tube between the air filter box and throttle body.

Let me know.
