It can be a 292 6 cyl, 350 V8 or 454 V8.. (unless someone swapped in something else...)

292 - 1-5-3-6-2-4
350 and 454 - 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

Number one is the front drivers side cylinder.

I found the above picture. If you put the number one cylinder on tdc of the compression stroke whichever plug tower the rotor is leading into, should be the number one plug tower.

That means either the timing or the firing order is wrong.

Did you have #1 cylinder on tdc of compression stroke before you pulled the distributor? Put the #1 cylinder on tdc, look to see where the rotor is pointing. If you can blow air into number 1 cylinder, its not on tdc or something else is wrong? You can use a fuel line hose that will fit snuggly in the spark plug hole, try to blow air into cylinder. There are other ways to check that.

I changed my plugs, but I may have gotten them out of order. I tried to pull one and replace one, but I had taken off two, before I decided to go one by one. I just want to make sure they are in the right order.

the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 the number one position is 11:30 on the distributor cap. That's looking from the driver's seat. The distributor turns clockwise. That should get you going.

Sure it could be if you didn't make sure it was TDC on the compression stroke. Most people just hold their finger over the spark plug hole while rotating the engine and you will feel the compression when you're approaching #1 TDC.

You still need to know that you are on the compression stroke or you will be 180 out. The crank rotate 2 times to every one revolution of the distributor.
