I have p0715 code

The main shaft speed sensor is located on the front of the automatic transmission. I've attached picture diagnostic steps below and the location of the speed sensor for the code P0715 relating to your vehicle. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Hey Im having issues with my 1997 CRV 2.0 and what exactly is that flow chart checking? The connectors for the main shaft speed sensor are in the B connector pins 15 and 14 at ECM.

So this code can be for the transmission as well, can I ask of the transmission is shifting okay or the engine is not starting or stalls?

Sometimes P0715 is accompanied by codes like P0720, P0730, or P0740.

If P0720 (output speed sensor), then it’s more likely the countershaft sensor.

With only P0715, it’s usually the mainshaft speed sensor.

If we know the symptoms it will help us fix the problem. Please let me know.

Just the p0715. Car shifts fine, had transmission rebuilt not to long ago. Until it hits limp almost immediately, scanner data for the main shaft speed sensor reads erratic and freezes and unfreezes. When its reading good it'll shift fine.

Okay, that clears things up a bit. Even though the transmission is rebuilt they can still use the old sensors, I would replace the sensor with a new one because these sensors have a high failure rate. Lett me know what happens, clear the codes once completed and this video will help as well.

Whats the failure rate on ecms for this thing? If the mainshaft speed sensor doesn't fix it more then likely an ecm?

The ECM can go out it is not super common but it does happen, I would go for the sensor first to see what happens. Clear the code once the repair is complete.

Replaced the mainshaft speed sensor and its doing the same thing. I checked continuity to each individual wire from sensor connector to ecm connector and all came back good.

That is the problem with this code it is vague. I would try the turbine, countershaft sensor speed sensor next. Again clear the codes.
