Vent Door Problem

You have to check vent door operation. The doors are what changes direction.

How do I check the vent door on the floor?

The vent doors are in the duct work under the dash. When you change the direction of air flow, check to see if they are working.

Do I have to remove anything under the dash to get to these doors?

When I get home tonight, I will check my manuals to see exactly what needs to be removed. However, you should be able to hear them move.

Stopped blowing air through the vents. It happened after I turned off the the center vent /AC/defroster selector switch. Air still blows out of the defroster vents and the AC works as well as the hot cold temperature control switches. The speed control on the blower fan works. I have replaced the center switch with a new one but still have the same problem. What changes the directional vents on the car vacuum or electricity. Could this be a bad relay ( they all seem to be in good shape) I have also checked all the fuses and they are good

Vacuum controls the modes your in default mode now. So have lost vacuum. Hear any hissss undre dash? if not check engine compartment see if a small hose is off that goes from intake to the bulkhead into pass compt.

My 2003 Escape stopped blowing air through the vents. It happened after I turned off the the center vent /AC/defroster selector switch. 2003 Ford Escape
I have a 2003 Escape with the same exact problem as described above.
I have not replaced the center vacuum control switch as the previous person.
Here are the diagnostic steps I took.
1. disconnected the vacuum line that runs thru the firewall into the cabin. hooked a length of vacuum hose to that line. applied suction to the line with the switch in the "defrost" mode. It held vacuum.
2. Turned switch to each of the other settings and one by one tried to apply vacuum. None of them held vacuum. I tried this with the engine off and with the engine running.
Applying vacuum to the black vacuum line that runs to the switch and getting vacuum that holds would indicate that the line is not disconnected in the cabin or damaged. That line goes directly to the switch in the console. Where do the multicolored vacuum lines go from the switch? Do those lines go to separate vacuum motors? Or is there another manifold at the other end of the multicolored lines?
