It does say that shorted spark plugs can cause this code, so I would go ahead and fix that, clear the codes, and see if it comes back.

I would definitely change the plugs and wires. Then clear out the codes and see if it comes back. If it does, then do what you can of the diagnostics that I posted earlier.

This is a picture of the plugs that came out. No electrode left ! I cannot believe this engine started and ran. I bought this as a project , the SUV sat in a driveway for eight years. I am getting ready to change the timing belt, tension-er and water pump, I bet this is an engine that if the valve timing jumped i would have nothing left with 4 camshaft ?
I been through that before and you are better off finding another engine.

Yeah those plugs definitely need changing. The gaps are all messed up and I bet Autolites are not even stock on that vehicle. I would think it should have NGK's but cannot look it up right now.

I just put a set of NGK BKR5ES-11 2382 Sparkplugs. Also I replaced the damaged boots. The old guy really sounds good. Tomorrow it's the timeing belt , tensioner and water pump. Also all the codes cleared. I think everything is good to go now . Thanks for all your help.
I know there is no money to be made on this one but I like it and it will make a good driver .
