How about getting a nice Holley then use the techniques in this link to tune the puppy up right!
I like the Holley, its adjustments are simple, it is easy to get into and parts are locally available.

I have tried might near everything with my Jeeps over the years to improve the fuel situation. I have had nothing but CJ's since I was allowed on the asphalt in 1981. I was not going let it whoop me either!
Improving on my present 1977 CJ5 Jeep with a 258 straight six cylinder, I bought a Offenhauser four barrel intake and a 390 Holley, as I could never get a whole lot out of my original two bbl Carter BBD or the Weber I replaced it with first go 'round
I gained two mpg (with my normal grandma-like driving) and I have power if I need it.
The link I gave you helped me out so much with tuning the carburetor!
Let us know how things are working out.
