Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Hyundai Tiburon 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I have a miss on #1 cyl. I have replaced the spark plug; spark plug wire; fuel injector; and coil pack. Ran a compression on cly and have 90 lbs, so I "assume" that should be enough to fire the cyl. Hooked up a scanner and it shows that #1 cyl. has "miss-fired" but I am at a loss. I am going to pull the valve cover to see if there is a broken valve spring, but I would think that would effect the compression, unless its on the intake side. I know its the #1, because when I remove the plug wire it makes no difference in the engine. Any help would be great.

Check the injector pulse with a noid light. If it is pulsing then you might want to do a running compression test and compare it to another cylinder.

I tested the connection with my 12 volt light tester and it was getting current on one side and a pulse on the other.

Try the running compression test. You might be on the right track with a valve issue.

I found the problem (well sorta). The injector is not getting a pulse signal. However, when I run a wire from the pulse side and briefly touch it to ground, it arcs and then it will work for a while. You can't leave it on the ground because it will short out, so any suggestions?

TGrace the wires back to the pcm. If they are not pulsing there you may have a problem with the pcm. Also check for power and a good ground to the pcm
