I had a complete brake job done at 47,000 miles including reconditioning brake rotors. At 54,000 miles I heard my rear brakes grinding and there was a burning smell in the car.
I had the car towed to the dealer. Their explanation is that rust built up under the brake pad, dislodging the pad and pushing it against the rotor. The brake pad quickly wore out and the rotors began to grind. He said that moisture can cause this problem. He said it happens all the time. I asked what could be done to stop this from happening again. He said nothing could be done.
Is this a viable explanation or is he just giving me some lame excuse? I find his explanation hard to believe.
