I have just bought a 1991 excel sprint for my sons first car, it starts first time idles perfectly but under load until it warms up it bunny hops and loses power. you have to put the clutch in and rev the engine to stop it from bunny hopping. after it warms up the engine runs and performs as it should.
Any clues??

OK you will need a digital multi meter and then unplug the coolant temp sensor and do this when it is cold ok. Now measure the resistance across the terms of the sensor (not the wiring harness) and get me the reading and the temp at the time of the test and I will look it up and see if it is in spec. It is on the intake manifold just below the thermostat housing. Here is a pic to help.

Hi Racefan,
I have just taken a reading and it is 1.46 Ohms,
The engine was cold and the ambient temperature was 28 Degs Celcius.

Also I made a mistake o0n the mileage it is actually 120000 Km Approx 75000 miles.

Well this may be 100% fix but the reading is way off. So that sensor is bad and will need to be replaced before we can go anyfurther. Let me know how it goes and if there is a problem.

We live in a remote area so it will tak a few weeks to get the part to me. I will let you know when I replace the sensor.
