Engine Performance problem
1987 Hyundai Excel 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

My hyundai is a little slow to the get up and go, but that's workable, my issue is that whenever I slightly go up a hill, it slows down dramatically, like almost to a complete hault. I've changed the wires, cap, plugs, and air filter. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Please help out. Thank you.

Hi kbeale,

Thank you for the donation.

Did you check the throttle cable adjustment? With engine off, get someone to fully depress the accelerator while you manually check the throttle to see if it is fully opened. Too much slack in the cable can result in the throttle not opening fully and greatly reduce the performance.

If this problem had occurred after timing belt replacement, recheck the timing belt installation.

Did you check the ignition timing to see if it is correct?

ok, so I've checked everything that you've suggested, and everything was working properly for the most part... But now my car is not starting, it turns over, just wont start. I changed fuel filters, battery and plugs, so I don't understand what the problem is... I even went to a Hyundai shop and they didn't know when I explained it to them. Have any ideas?

It is not possible to know what is wrong without understanding which system is malfunctioning.

Check through the following link for the situation that aptly describes your condition and perform the test according to the procedures.

Let me know what you find.
