2003 Hyundai Elantra fuel gage i

HI , I just bought a used Hyundai ,the gas gage was showing half of the l tank, I decided to fill the tank .I put 40.00 gas at 2.85 a gallon but the gas gage was still setting on half. the needle didn’t move. What should I do to fix it?
