Hello,

This guide shows you the camshaft timing marks toward the bottom of the page.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

My daughter was told that Hyundais are notorious for breaking their timing belts earlier than the recommended replacement time. When is a good time to replace the belt. She has 60,000 miles on it now ; bought it used 6 months ago & is trying to keep it well maintained.Should she change it now or wait ?

Hi sawdustannie,

If the timing had not been replaced yet, now is the time to do it.

Waiting in this case is a dangerous game.

If my timing belt wasnt changed at 90,000kms and now is 20,000 overdue, how long have I got to get it fixed, is this a timebomb? I was quoted $1000 for the job, was my mechanic including labour costs as they said it is time consuming? Do you recommend getting another quote?

With 20k over due, I would definitely try to have it replaced sooner rather than later. The $1,000 estimate is WAY over...it only take about 3 hours on this vehicle to replace the timing belt. An estimate is below of what it should cost you..

All Hyundai engines, L4 and V-6 are interference engines so yes it is very possible to have valve and piston damage if timing belt breaks during operation.

If you are refering to the harmonic balancer, you need a puller for it. Most parts stores will rent what you need.

2.Inadequate spark/coil,defective spark plug wire.
3.Lack of compression
4.False air leakage.
5.Faulty fuel injectors.

crank timing setting are done by computer if off just put it close to tdc on #1 then a pro has to use his scanner to put it in sync with crank sensor.
