2000 Hyundai Accent disable warning lite

My hatch latch open light continues to stay on when latch is securly closed.I know eventually this will kill battery.Where do I start to disconnect/track down problem?

Might I suggest inspecting the latch/switch assembly.

Took apart assembly everything looks OK.Wire looks a little frayed,could that be problem?(The wire I refer to is the one plugged into latch assem.)

Now it seems the light goes out when brake is depressed.Any ideas?
