I recently replaced my injectors, coils and plugs due to rough idling. After all was replaced, it was still running a little rough, so I took it into shop as I was tapped for time. They called 3 hours after driving it in there and stated my motor was ruined and hydro-locked due to a faulty injector. Is this possible?

Hello, how long have you been driving around with the new injectors, and did you replace them with the manufacturer OEM injectors? If there was an injector that was leaking that much fuel, you would have tons of white smoke pouring out of your exhaust when you drove it to the shop for one. An injector that is staying completely open will lower fuel pressure in the fuel rail as well. So, if you were driving around on the new injectors for a few days or so and it didn't hydro lock on you, then I don't think you're getting the whole story. Did you tell them you replaced all the injectors when you dropped it off as well? If so, then this may be a dishonest shop, that is something they can use to take advantage of the situation. Also, if an engine is hydro locked and won't turn over, why not just take the spark plugs out, crank it over and get the fuel out of the cylinders. Then check for a leaking injector by putting a fuel gauge on the fuel rail and watching for a pressure drop after the engine is turned off. Sounds a bit sketchy to me. I would pick up my vehicle, if it went in running, it should come out running.

I drove it twice to work after replacing all parts and then to the shop. The only issue it was still had was some hesitation when accelerating but drove at speed fine, and no smoke present at all. I have cared for this car meticulously since I bought it with 20k on it. While I am mechanically inclined and able to do almost anything I am not an expert by any means and this explanation seems insane to me and needed some support on it.

You are the second person this week that I have dealt with that may have been taken advantage of by a dishonest shop. We don't lie to people here. If a fuel injector was dumping that much fuel, you would have a lot of smoke due to the extremely rich running condition. So, something does not sound right here. You do have high mileage so a hesitation could be some carbon build up on the throttle plates or a lazy oxygen sensor, etc. But you would have noticed a situation like that. You drove it for 2 or 3 days before and had no issues, now the question is what condition is the vehicle going to be in when you pick it up. If you're nervous about starting the vehicle because of what they said, try turning the engine over by hand with socket and bar on the crankshaft bolt, if it won't turn, take the spark plugs out and try again. If it's really hydro locked, fuel should come shooting out of the spark plug hole. Also, your oil will smell like gas and need to be changed because fuel will seep by the piston rings and into the oil pan. The oil level will also be high due to all the fuel leaking down. If that's really the condition. Just some things to look for. If fuel does come out of the spark plug hole, be careful afterwards, you don't want a fire. But turning it over by hand is the safe way to check the condition without damaging anything.

I appreciate your info. The real kicker is that I work for the same company just in motorcycles and not the auto side and I involved the service director, and he is backing the shop.

That makes things difficult. It's hard to say your own company is not being honest with you, I can't say that either. I can only go by the info you give us. It's just an odd coincidence then.

No, I believe you are spot on point sadly. The auto side does not have that good of reputation as it is.
