2008 Hummer H3 18,000 miles

I've seen a few spots where the rear differential fluid has dripped. Is this bad news?

Shouldn't be, your still under warranty. Could be a loose drain/fill plug, or seal missing from either. A leaking pinion seal or diff gasket.
