I was driving home when I started noticing that whenever I would disengage the cruise control it would not accelerate and just rev as if stuck in neutral. I would pull over and put in park, then put it back in drive and it would be fine. Then after the third time, it will not engage any gear now and when I try and go to put in back in park I hear a grinding noise come from in front of me under the dash. I think it might be electrical, but need help.

Good afternoon,

When you try to move the truck, does the speedometer move up and show speed?

It sounds like either the transfer case or a differential issue.

If you switch the transfer case from two wheel to four wheel does it move again?

When I try to put the truck in gear, it does not engage so the speedometer is not going to move if the truck cannot. Switching from two wheel to four wheel does nothing. It happened after disengaging the cruise control.

The speedometer can work if there is an issue after the transmission. If your issue is in the transfer case, the transmission could work but no power sent to the rear wheels.

The grinding is the key as it tells me the inside of the transmission is turning but nothing is getting to the wheels.

So what would cause that to happen after disengaging the cruise control?

So what is the noise coming from under the dash when I would put it in park? Also, the grinding only happens when putting it in park and does not come from the transmission, it comes from behind the dash.

It may be coming up from the floor. The transmission is right there.

Can you upload a video with sound for us to hear?
