I had the kayak J-Bar rack mounted on the roof (passenger side) and accidentally turned the knob which opens sunroof. Thus, it got crooked because it couldn't open from one side, and it stopped. It feels like now the rail teeth on one side have jumped because it doesn't close completely from that side. After watching some of the videos on YouTube, I removed the glass roof to make sure nothing is bent or obstructing on the rails. I also removed the overhead panel to access the motor directly to manually operate the roof and see if I could force it to close but without any success.

Attached are pictures which show how the rail is moving unevenly now and thus it's not closing. At one position, one side of the rail is touching the wind barrier and other side doesn't. At fully closed position, one side is flush with the roof and other side is not.

How to force the either side to jump some teeth on the track, so they can be aligned. Or somehow if I can disconnect one rail from the other, so I can move them individually to align?

Hi,

There is a window regulator that may need to be removed to change the positioning of the glass. If you haven't removed it yet, I would recommend removing it and then trying to adjust the glass positioning before reinstalling the regulator.

I attached directions for removal and installation of the regulator below. Take a look and let me know if you have questions.

Take care,

joe

Yes, as I mentioned I did remove the motor/regulator and tried to push the rail from one side but with no luck.

I am trying to figure out if there is an easy way to adjust the track brackets/rail to align without having to drop the headliner and then gain access to the whole sunroof rail assembly.

Hi,

If you were unable to align it with the regulator removed, chances are you will need to remove the headliner to see where the problem is located.

I attached the directions for removing the headliner below for you. It looks somewhat easy to do, but anything is possible.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks a ton Joe, all the provided information was helpful, and I was able to resolve the issue. No part change needed just cleaning up the tracks and realigning the brackets and voila job done.
