On this 76 Dodge W200 from what I see, the rotor is attached to the hub...Some pictures of rotors at the autoparts stores show just the rotor by itself, and then an assembly--I have the assembly...I have pulled and pulled and tapped from the back with a hammer...perhaps I need the mallet instead. There are NO autopart stores that carry a universal puller with at least 6.5 inch length for this 8 lug wheel...it seems the only pullers available to rent is for wheels the size of a Geo Metro. Besides a puller, by hitting this thing from the back, will it eventually budge?...I have sprayed PB in all the places that I should where rust weld could occur. Other than rust, what else could be holding this thing up? And why on earth would they have the rotor welded to the hub? Thanks.

I HAVE TWO JEEPS, A '77 AND A '46 WILLYS

ON THE '46, IN ORDER TO REMOVE ANY ONE OF THE FOUR BRAKE DRUMS,

I MUST REMOVE THE BEARINGS ON THE FRONT END TO REMOVE THE HUBS (AND DRUMS)

I MUST REMOVE THE HUBS (AND DRUMS) FROM THE TAPERED SHAFT ON THE REAR

............HERE'S THE BEST PART!

IN ORDER TO REPLACE A DRUM, I MUST PRESS OUT ALL OF THE WHEEL STUDS, TO SEPARATE THE TWO PIECES......THEN PRESS 'EM BACK IN WITH THE NEW DRUM

YEAH.........I THOUGHT THE SAME THING TOO, THE 1ST TIME I HAD TO DO IT

MAYBE YOURS IS SIMILAR?

Not sure...I will have to look at it more...I called a buddy that has done this for a living and does auto body now and he told me to be patient and get a 2x4 and pound the back of the rotor/hub from the back...I used a 4 pound steel mallet and after almost breaking my arm swinging I was able to get the thing off...now, the flange cover has star type bolts and that is the next thing for me to try to do is find a socket for it and so far I cannot locate one...I may have to PB blast the bolts and get some locking pliers after them...this is ridiculous. It was definitely seized on the spindle.

Are you in need of a Torx wrench? If I recall, that takes a T50. It's been awhile since I worked on a 76, but they were great trucks.

Well, I cannot get the bearing off the hub...I even broke a puller trying to get it off. It is not moving a bit and is seized on there--well, the outer part with the bearing came off but on the whole thing. It appears to be pressed on there. The question in my mind is is there a stop on the hub or do I need a caliper to measure how far it is on there if it has to be pressed on there? This is insanity!
