Automatic transmission input shaft speed sensor location

Good afternoon.

The sensor is inside the side cover of the transmission. The side cover case has to be removed in order to access the valve body for the sensor.

To remove the cover, you need to remove the axle shaft, drop that side of the cradle that holds the engine and transmission in order to get the correct amount of room to release the cover.

The job pays four hours in a shop with a lift and all the tools. If you were to attempt this, I would say you will need to double the time and maybe more.

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the case side cover.
2. Disconnect the transaxle wiring harness.

3. Remove the input speed sensor clip (441) from the case cover.
4. Remove the input speed sensor (440) from the case cover.

How hard is it to takeout the axle shaft?

You need to remove the wheel, brake caliper, mount and the nut for the axle. Then the lower ball joint has to be released to allow enough movement to remove the out part of the axle. Then you can remove the axle shaft.

Will I need an gaskets or special tools?

You will need a side plate gasket, fluid.

You will need a floor jack, jack stand. air tools, that is, a 1/2 air gun to remove the axle nut for the axle shaft.

Other than that, a long screw driver to release the inner CV joint for the axle.

What size socket for the hub nut?

Either a 32mm or a 36mm. Needs to be a deep socket and you need a 1/2 impact gun to remove it.

Why can I not do it with a breaker bar or a ratchet?

If you can break it loose from 220 to 230 ft lbs then go for it.

So it will be a workout for me to bust it loose.

If you do not have access to an air impact gun what I have done in the past is use a 1/2 breaker bar and use a 2 ton floor jack handle. The floor jack handle fits over the end of the breaker bar and gives you more leverage. Just my two cents. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

When you get to the solenoid, make sure the connector is not damaged. Check the wires for any damaged or lose pins.

Just wanted to ad one quick tip, to break the axle nut lose without air tools the easiest way I have found is to put a cheater bar on your breaker bar with it on the axle nut and slowly drive the car until the bar touches the ground, then just ease the car until the nut breaks loose. Just make sure you are driving in the right direction to loosen the nut. Hope this helps.

Just thought I would ad that if you do not have a solid surface for the bar to slide across I have found resting the end on a common 2X4 acts like a ski so the bar does not dig in.

He was trying to explain extra leverage for you to break the nut loose.

The handle like Danny said is a good idea.
