How Engine piston clocking is decided and whats its reason?

Cars have a random piston clocking say for example 6 cylinder engine has a engine clocking like this 1-5-2-6-3-4. So what is the reason behind setting this clocking sequence?

I think that you are referring to the engine firing order, this is to do with the balance of the engine you can not get an engine to run on a firing order 1-6
