Hood latch pull fix

The latch does not work, has not for a long time. I have broken at least four of the wires pulling it with pliers. I want to weld it so it does not break anymore. Question is, the wire I should use and the solder or metal used to tie everything together? Then I assume I would wrap the additional wire though many different of the existing wires. Any suggestions?

I have a butane torch. I can solder.
