battery will not take a charge. In fact, the charger starts to charge then after a time says "bad". I assume that means the battery is needing replacing.

If it is indicating bad, then chances are there is a bad cell in the battery and it does need to be replaced.

Replacing the battery isn't too hard of a job. To get you started, here is a link that explains how in general to replace one. Use this as a guide.

If you look at the attachments below, they include the directions specific to your vehicle for replacement. When you perform this, when disconnecting the battery, start with the negative terminal removal and then the positive. When installing the new battery, start with the positive and then install the negative.

I just changed the battery on the Taurus and when I reconnect the cables the anti theft alarm goes off. What can I do to connect the cables with out setting
off the alarm

Was the alarm system armed when you changed the battery??? If so, when you reconnect the battery, it should return to the factory default volatile memory setting which would be disarmed, hook up positive first,, have you tried disarming the alarm after you hook up the battery??? I just put a new battery in my 99 Taurus, no noticeable issues, even though the pcm needs to relearn a few things ,I didn't notice any driveability issues

I have a similar issue: I replaced the battery in my 2001 Taurus FFV, the system was "off", I connected the terminals positive first, then when I connected the ground side, the horn started blowing, the dash gauges were all pegged, and all the windows rolled down, and the truck released. Nothing I can seem to find tells me what to reset to fix this issue.. Has anyone seen this problem before?

If you haven't gotten the Battery yet, and you have a way to jump start it, call your local parts store and ask them if they would replace your battery for you. Most will do it for free.

If you do have the battery you will need a couple tools I believe the nuts on the terminal are 1/2" and a wrench will do just fine, then there is a hold down block in front of the battery at the bottom that I believe is 7/16" you will need a socket with a 8 - 10" extension and a ratchet to get to it.

Then just pull the old one out and put the new one in and reverse proceedure to secure battery and cables.
