My friends car has been stalling out a lot. We took it to O'Reilly's had the whole charging system checked out all good there. Was looking around the engine and noticed this part which is supposed to have a hose connected to it was completely broken off and there was a small screw stuck in the house plugging it. Not sure but have a feeling they're related. if you could somebody could please let me know exactly what part this is and if it would or could cause the stalling out. thanks

Hi,

I believe you are looking at the EGR valve. The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve i allows unburned fuel to be reprocessed through the intake and reburned.

Take a look at the pic below and let me know if that looks like what you are seeing.

Take care,

Joe

It's actually behind the EGR valve in the pics I think looks kind of similar somewhat but has hose going to it and that is where you can see plastic broke off where the hose is supposed to attach and someone previously plugged up hose with a screw. here's different picture I highlighted it and closer picture.

I'm not positive because not my car. I think it's the 6 though. I'll ask her next time I see her.

Hi,

Looking at the picture, I believe it is the 3.0L v6. Take a look at the pic below. I think it's the FIA (fuel injection air valve).

Let me know if that seems to fit what you see at home.

Take care,

Joe

Okay, that looks like that might be what it is that could cause stalling out issues correct? My friend showed up this morning she said it shut off on her again so she just got a ride to my house. I will look into getting that fixed I'm hoping that's the only problem and it fixes it.

Hi,

Yes, that can cause a stalling problem. Take a look at the pic below. It is from a different angle. Also, I highlighted the purpose of the part.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Yes, that looks to be it. perfect thank you.by chance got repair procedure to replace that part looks like I'm going to have to take off manifold to get to it unless there's another way to get it off without having to do that.

Hi,

The manual doesn't provide directions specific to replacing that part, but the intake does appear to need to be removed.

I attached directions below from the "Cylinder head Removal" section. I included all the directions down to removing the FIA. Keep in mind, these directions are for cylinder head removal. Inspect things and skip the procedure if you don't need to remove it for the intake. Also, there is only one bolt that holds the FIA in place. See if you can access it before doing this. The last pic below shows the FIA and I highlighted the bolt.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
