My oil was overfilled. I drove it about 30 miles after that. During that time the idle began to surge with the clutch in. Also, car seemed to have to have the cooling fan run after the engine was shut down, for extended time periods. There was never a CEL or code registered.

Eventually, car will no longer start. It cranks but does not begin running.

I replaced the fuel filter, rotor and cap, plugs and checked all wires, coil and ICM. I also replaced the PCV valve.

Of course, I drained the oil to the proper level after I finally realized the overfill was a problem.

What should I do now?

Hi preludekent,

Check the coolant level in the radiator. Seems the engine was running hot and hope you have not damaged the head gaskets.

Thanks for your reply. The coolant was low. I added 1 gallon of 50-50 to get it full again.

I did a compression test, on the cold engine.

1: 187 psi
2: 194 psi
3: 175 psi
4: 185 psi

There is an oil leak, I think from the oil cooler that leaks only when you crank the engine.

1. Do you think the oil cooler is where I'm leaking the coolant into the oil?
2. Do you think the compression test proves that the head gasket is ok?
3. If the source of the coolant / oil leak is fixed, what is your best guess of other problems? Will I need to do more to get it started?

I've made my mechanic rich over the last few years, and have vowed to take care of this myself or just ditch the car.
