Hi lag4brke,

Removal & Installation

1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Lift and support vehicle above ground. Disconnect 2 heated oxygen sensor connectors from left front exhaust pipe.

2. Remove left front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter to access starter. Remove starter heat shield and connectors. Remove starter bolts and drop starter toward bottom of engine.

3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten starter and exhaust bolts to specifications.

Well you can spen time trying to break lose the manafold to exhaust pipe bolts qty (3x 17 mm socket size) and take a chance at breaking the manafold on your 200k+ mile passport may work. Some people have had success removing the moter to frame mount ( hard to get to 14mm head bolts will take a wobble socket and a couple of long extensions from under the hood... What we do at the ranch were we buy these vehicals cheap and use them until they are worn out unbolt the starter and twist it around the cavity that its in an un bolt/clip and push it out of the way and take a sawzall and cut the shroud and thermal braket off of the transmission housing this will still allow you to reninstal the thermal sheilding with only one bolt instead of two. Cutting the transmission housing will allow you to change starters freely with out removing anything else

Depending on what position the wheels are in sometimes you have to turn the steering wheel to unlock the ignition. So why did you replace the starter to began with?Does the starter make any noise while trying to start it now?

When I turn the key to start the car, sometimes it turns over just fine, but other times it just makes a clicking sound and doesn't turn over. Batter is just fine, checked all fuses, I have concluded that the problem is the starter. I do not have the $$$ to pay to have starter replaced. how do I replace myself?
