1996 Honda Passport heater core

I was wondering if you might be able to tell me the "degree of difficulty" for a backyard mechanic to change the heater core in a 1996 Honda Passport with a V8 auto. Any inside hints or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....

It is a lot of work these are the steps needed according to my book Removal & Installation (1995 1/2-96 Models) 1.Disable air bag system. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove center console assembly. Remove ECM cover. Remove glove box. Remove passenger's side lower instrument panel cover. Remove hood release handle. Remove driver's side lower instrument panel cover. 2.Remove lower instrument cluster assembly. Remove meter cluster assembly. Remove driver's side knee bolster panel. Remove instrument panel lower center cover. Remove heater control panel knobs and disconnect heater control cables. Unplug wiring connectors and remove heater control panel. 3.Remove right side defroster grille. Unplug necessary wiring connectors from instrument panel. Remove 8 bolts, 3 nuts, 2 screws and instrument panel assembly. Remove passenger's air bag module and air bag module support. Remove speedometer and gauge assembly. Remove radio. Remove vent duct. Remove instrument panel wiring harness. 4.Remove passenger's knee bolster support. Unplug ECM connectors. Remove instrument panel center support bracket. Remove brake pedal bracket assembly. Remove fuse box and instrument panel support beam. 5.Drain engine coolant, and disconnect heater hoses from heater unit. Disconnect resistor connector at blower assembly. Remove blower assembly duct. Remove instrument panel support. 6.Remove heater unit. Remove duct. Remove mode control case, but DO NOT disconnect control link. Separate temperature control case. Remove heater core. To install, reverse removal procedure. Check mode door operation

Is there a way to rig it to stop leaking coolant into the driver's side? I have the same problem,needing to replace the heater core, and just need to make this car last until the end of the month. but I'm running through coolant very fast, and I have to keep adding to keep the temp down. I don't want to spend $850 to replace a $90 part, and all of that work for a car that will be gone in 3 weeks is kind of ludicrous.
