Ignition lockout

[b]2000Honda crv with 56000miles.[/b] Recently when I turn my car off, the key does not come out of the ignition. The car motor/engine is off but the car is in the auxilary stage--you know when the radio only is on.

The only way I can get the key out is if I disengaged the battery. This can be tiresome. Turn off the car---open the hood---raise the hood---(make sure I have my pliers in the car :wink: :wink: )--disconnect the battery---get back in the car---take the key out---close the hood---gathering my belongings---lock the door---go in the house or where ever I 'm going.

When I ask my mechanic what was wrong, he just wanted to know how I knew to disconnect the battery. :roll: :roll:

He tried, at first he couldn't get the key out either, and then he said the shifter must not be compelety in the "park" mode. "All I had to do is jiggle it."

Jiggling worked [b]once[/b]. Jiggling frustated me more.

I made an appointment with my HOnda dealer but I am scared to tell him the problem fearing it may be too exspensive.

Does this problem sound complicated to fix or should I just trade her in?

TIRESOME is my best option because the car does work.

i think its just that the release pin stuck or not working right.... (if its the actuator electric.. probably the switch its out of range or not adjusted)

is not too expensive to fix..
dont worry!

something simple ..

Thank you for your response. I will be trying your remedy this week. The response I received from my Honda dealer did not fit my intelligence. I was told I needed a new key and the battery was low. "I am not a mechanic nor do I claim to be one in real life."

The key was the original key and the battery was recharged. The concern was not solved.

I will get back to you to let you know the results. Thank you again.

In regards to my original question I have a related question. :roll: :roll: :roll:

To fixed the problem based on your remedy. The mechanic could not fix it because the "lockout " was not happening. He said "if it is not broke don't fix it." The "lockout" was not happening now. [b:e568bf4023]It fixed itself[/b:e568bf4023] until yesterday.

My mechanic said bring it back when it happens again. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Even though No [b:e568bf4023]2000 CRV's [/b:e568bf4023]were recall for that problem, that does not negate the fact that it did not happen to them.

My question---"Are you aware of this problem based on the recalls of the 2000 models? And if so , does it seem like my problem may be a recall issue?

Is it a manufacturer defect and should it be there responsiblity to replace or fix?

Is my "lockout" problem the same as this recall problem?
