my speedometer is not working at times

The speedometer sometimes does not work and when this occurs the D light would blink. What could possibly be the problem?

Does it have a tach and if so does that work? I would suspect the sender unit on the tranny.

Yes, it has a tach and it work's fine.

The sender supplies info to the tach and speedometer. If the tach is steady and doesn't cut out it sounds like time to replace the speedometer.
