I just bought a Honda Odyssey 2007. I have found 2 problems with it, and I wonder if they might be related:

1) Cruise control power light comes on, flickers at lower speeds, and when I press the 'set' button, the other CC light does not come on, and Cruise control does not function.

2) the 'voice command' feature on the Navi system does not work. You are supposed to hear a beep when you press the steering wheel mounted button, but nothing. I found out how to put the Navi system in to diagnostic mode, and it appears the main Navi system does not see the microphone or the 2 steering wheel switches.

Coincidence?

Hi TN,

Thank you for the donation.

Both problems are not related by circuits and system but they are most likely caused by the same fault. The spring clock reel under the steering wheel is bad resulting in a break in the electrical circuit.

If vehicle is equipped with SRS (airbaog system), the SRS indicator would most likely be indicating as well.

KHLow2008,

Thanks for the reply. You were right!

Follow up question if I may - I've heard one independent tech say on a 42k miles 3 year old car, Honda should cover it since it's SRS related. The dealer says no.

What has your experience been?

If the vehicle is still under warranty, you can insist for a warranty job. If vehicle had been under the srevice care of the dealer, you have a strong case to argue.

This is a part that can be damaged due to improper installation. If the steering wheel or steering column had been removed and reinstalled without calibrating the clock spring reel correctly, you can't fault the dealer for refusing the claim.

However if they were they people who performed the job, you can request them to replace it under warranty.
