When I start my van the shift gear is locking up in the parking. what causes this problem?

Hi jramanik,
The interlock system is malfunctioning preventing the gear from being shifted out of park.
Are the brake lights working?
When brake pedal is depressed with ignition switch turned on, do you hear a clicking noise near the geat shift?
Is the P indicator light showing when the ignition switch is turned on?
