My transmission has been slipping significantly for two years...within the last couple weeks, an additional strong vibration has started coming from the engine, starting around 35-45 mph (sounds a bit like a distant helicopter). I had a transmission expert drive the car and they properly diagnosed the transmission, which I thought was also related to the vibration, but they said it was definitely something else. They are putting it on a rack this morning to try to determine what the vibration may be...I would really appreciate any guidance, as my budget is tight and I cannot afford to go down any unnecessary path. THanks!

Hi jrdelamater,

Vibrations are never easy to diagnose especially without a physical car and we can only guess and provide possible causes. It would depend on the type of vibrations present and under what driving conditions.

If it happens only with slight to moderate acceleration and disappears when accelerator pedal is released, possible cause would be the CV shaft inner joints out of balance due to insufficient lubrication or worn joints.
