My engine light came on about 4-5 months ago, I showed it to my mechanic and he told me I need a cat. converter. Then I started getting Premium Gas and signed went away in few weeks. After that light has come on and off periodically. Light just came back on last Saturday, I drive car about 50 miles a day for work.
Should I get it checked with dealer now?? My car inspection in due next year in August. I am planning to keep this car for long time. Do you think there might me another problem?? Can I run it thru this fall/winter?

Thanks for your help.

Hi BBJ,

When the Check Engine Light indicates, an error has been detected and it can be a faulty component or wiring fault.

Autozone provides free scanning services. Get ascan done and let me know the exact trouble codes. This would allow us to understand the problem and advise accordingly.

Though the CEL is indicating, it can be a minor problem but the engine control would not be working at 100 % efficiency so you might have side effects such as increased fuel consumption.
