I commute about 70 miles, one way, 4-5 days per week. I dirve the car hard (2500-3000 rpm).
I've had to warm the car for about 2-5 minutes after the car has been sitting in the morning and evening.
Sometime, just applying the gas will stop any stall after putting the car into gear. Most times, the car stalls when turning or pulling to a stop sign. I will have to retart the car usually 2-3 times before I'm able to drive without further issue. Also, the exhaust smells like gasolline. No other odors or sounds.
Dealer revved the motor while starting and said there was nothing wrong; this is how you should start your car. I disagree and need this taken care of.

Hi Kathy ,

What is the idling speed when starting from cold?
What is the idling speed after warming up?

Seems the idling speed is too low causing the stalling and difficult starting.

It's a day later than I said, but I wanted to be sure I made several attempts.
Monday morning: I was in a hurry and neglected to view the idling speed.
Monday evening: Idling speed at startup: 1500 rpm
Speed at warmup and go: 1000 rpm
Time: 3 minutes; weather warm; 85ish
No sputtering or stalling issues.

Tuesday morning: Idling speed at startup: 1300 rpm
Speed at warmup and go: 900 rpm
Time: 4 minutes; weather cool; 56ish
No sputtering or stalling issues.

Tuesday evening: Idling speed at startup: 1200 rpm
Speed at warmup and go: 800 rpm
Time: 4 minutes; weather warm; 80ish
Car felt very "rocky" while idling for first minute of startup. Near stall at stop light about a 1/4 mile away, but no further stall issues.

Monday's operation seemed closer to what I expect, minus the need for warmup.

Thank you.

The start up and warmed up idling speed seems to indicate the idling speed is ok but for Tuesday the rpm dropped to 5-6 indicates it is lower than expected.

Get the valve clearance adjusted, Throttle Body and Idle Air Control valve cleaned and retest.

It sounds like the Idle Air Control Valve, IACV. This keeps the car from stalling when cold and regulates idle under engine load.
