My neighbor is selling her "reliable" Honda CR-V. It's at 109,000 miles. I'm interested in buying for a cheap price ($4000) as I'm a student who needs a reliable car. It's in very good overall condition. The only thing is that someone tried to break into it and broke the door handle and lock on the driver's door. She says you cannot open the door from the driver's side-- it is always locked (until it's fixed, anyway!). I know this is very vague, but does anyone have any idea as to how much this repair might cost? Even a range of prices would help since I'm a poor college student who would prefer to keep her money! :D And if this repair is too expensive (let's say $2000 or higher), what cheap, reliable car am I better off getting??? Any ideas? Thanks!!!

I think you are making a wise choice of vehicles. Your best bet is to take it by a collision shop and ask for an estimate of repair. If aesthetics are not important as functionability, let them know that.

Repair should be relatively cheap. There are used parts around as well.
