Hello all - I am hoping that somebody here can help me with this problem. Having some problems with the cruise control. After driving it for about 40-50 minutes, the cruise just cuts out. I can then reset the cruise and it will work for about another 20 minutes. When the cruise stops working, the cruise light on the dash stays on for about a minute and then goes out. After resetting the cruise, the light comes on back as normal.

I have replaced the Actuator and the Cruise control module, but neither have had any effect on the problem described.

Can someone please help me ????? This is driving me nuts !!!!

I am having the exact same problem. Except sometimes the cruise will slow down, speed up, slow down and then shut off.

Have you figured out what the problem is?

Hi xander777,

If the speedometer is not working correctly, it can cause the problem.

The speedometer is working fine. It almost seems like an overheating problem. The cruise must be on for at least 6 or 7 straight minutes before it happens.
If I tap the brake or press Cancel before that time, I never get the problem, only if its been on continuously. Once it shuts itself off, the problem happens again within a minute or 2 unless I turn off the master switch for sever minutes. Once I turn the switch and the Cruise back on, I may get another 6 or 7 minutes before the problem happens again.

On a side note, it hasn't happened as much lately since I've been using the AC less. Don't know if it's tied to AC usage or not.

Hi xander777,

I would suspect a bad power source. Possibly the connectors are contaminated and causing high resistance which when heated up will fail.

I'll check it out. Any idea where to look for the connectors?

Hi xander777, It is the cruise control unit.

Check #10 (7.5A) and #4 (10A) in under dash fusebox and #7 (15A) in underhood fusebox. Check if horn is working. Check if the tachometer is working properly.

The original post of "helpmeCRV" on 3/26/08 says that he changed the "cruise control module".

My 2004 CRV cruise control will also work initially for 30 or 40 minutes, less on hills, and then sputter, slow down, and the cruise stops working, and dash light goes off. However, the main cruise control switch to the left of the steering wheel stays on. But it must be turned off and then on again to reactivate the cruise system. Cruise will only work 10 or so minutes when it fails again.

Any solutions anyone?

Seems this poblem is not isolated.

Try this, when problem occurs, use your foot to pull the brake pedal up slightly and try resetting the cruise control to see if it works. If it works, the brake pedal switch is out of adjustment.

I was able to resolve the same issue with my 2002 CR-V after performing a load test on the battery - it was only pumping out 7.5 volts.

Replacing the battery has solved the problem with the cruise control randomly cutting out.

I hope this is helpful.

problem solved! i replaced the switch cluster at the steering wheel from a wrecked cr-v. this is the 3 switch cluster used to "set", "cancel", and "accel" since then i've driven with the cruise on for at least 5 hours without incident.

I have a 2002 CRV with same problem. Changed out the cruise control switch worked for 3 minutes then cut off. Battery is at 13.9v when driving. Should I change out the cruise control module next or try the brake pedal analysis first. By the way cleaned all the contacts already with electric contact cleaner.

9 times out of 10 it is the clock spring which goes out due to wear. To be sure here is a guide to help you check the wiring and the cruise control wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works and the instructions on how to check the clock spring out in case it proves to be faulty:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-wiring

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Thanks Ken. I think it might be the brake pedal switch. I will check on my way home today.
