2002 Honda CR-V Idle Problem (intermediate)

Hi Guys, I have an 02 CR-V and for the last couple of days it's been acting up. Once started it has a surging idle. It will keep bouncing between roughly 1200 and 1000 RPM back and forth at about a 1 sec frequency. If you gun the throttle a little, it goes away and runs like a charm. But the SES light remains on, I have cleared it by disconnecting the battery, but comes back the next time it acts up.

I checked all the sensor connections (assumed a bad contact or something), I checked spark plugs, (very clean, first time in 40,000M i look at it) I added some fuel system cleaner, and when that failed I bought some carb cleaner and sprayed that in during idle (thought maybe a sensor or a valve or something might be sticky).

No help, the next day, same thing.

When you say the SES light are you referring to the Check Engine Light? If so, there is a code that is being referenced. Get the code pulled so we have more information to work with.

Yes Service Engine Soon, Check Engine Light, Panic Light, whichever you like :)

Ok I will pull the code tonight, with OBD2 can you still flash it out by shorting out pins 1 and 4? I read on a forum that with Honda you can do that, but i'm hesitant to short anything out on the OBD 2, on the older OBD 1 I know it worked and it was a useful and cheap tip.

Don't try that, go to an Autozone or call an Autoparts place to see if they can hook up to get the code.

I have pulled the code and it is P1519 which means Idle Air control Valve circuit failure.

Now the problem is I have no idea what that looks like and or where it is, but it sounds like it would be on the intake somewhere close to the throttle as I immagine it would work to adjust the amount of air bypassing the throttle valve.

Any idea what would be wrong with it?

It should have two coolant lines hooked to it. They are smaller lines. Located the IAC and take it off. Check it for being plugged. There are usually a couple of screens or filters in it.

Ok the Code was P1519.
I removed the entire throttle body, cleaned it, took the IACV off cleaned it also, checked to make sure the valve part moves freely. Put everything back together, started the car, and everything was perfect... for one day, then again, same symptoms and same code.

Can it be something else causing this valve to malfunction?

There are 3 codes for the same thing. I only get one P1519 - Idle Air Control Valve Circuit Failure.
But there is also P1508 and P1509 both have the description IAC Valve Circuit Failure.

Am I missing something here?
