Okay... so my air conditioning compressor exploded... yep, exploded. The casing has a large hole in the side of it. So, I need to replace it.
So here is my question: It is my understanding that in such circumstances, it is imperative that the cooling system be flushed to remove any foreign objects to insure that the same situation will not happen again. How is this done? Can it be done by a novice mechanic such as my self, or do you recommend having the compressor replaced by a repair shop? Also, is it harmful to the vehicle to drive it with a broken compressor? It is my understanding the the clutch has a safety mechanism that doesn't allow the clutch to engage in such a case.
I am trying to get this repaired as cheaply as possible, so if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it!
