We are set to replace the compressor for the a/c. The clutch went out first, causing damage to the compressor and belt - is there any way to disconnect the unit so that the belt will disengage until the service dept. can replace the compressor? Whenever we turn on the engine, the belt engages. Is there any way around removing the belt?

Yes the belt can be removed from the engine as the ac compressor runs on its own belt. Simply remove the ac belt until you have your issue resolved.
