Engine is running rough with the engine light blinking did test at Honda dealer and they said burned valve and a tune-up will not help it. one cylinder appears to have burned valve and not firing. Can a tune-up fix this problem or do I have to do a valve job and/or replace the engine?

You need to replace the valves, purchase a new head or a new engine.

I feel your pain. The exact same thing is occuring to my 1998 CRV with 105,000 miles. (litterally right now (8/27/09) the car is at the shop) I've already done a cap, rotor, wires, plug swap but still check engine is flashing.

Brought it to a garage was sorry to hear valve issues are a common problem with the 98-01 models. I am hoping a valve adjustment will rectify the issue but all signs point to a valve job being needed. I will of course do the timing belt/water pump if it is determined the valve job is needed.

I am suprised to hear you have 250K on the car. I would junk it if I had that many miles (considering my work (if valve job) will be ~$1500).

Too bad these cars have this issue, it was a good running car just can't see disposing of it w/ only 105K
