weird clutch noise

i have a 90 honda civic it has 300,000 miles an when i push the clutch in it is quiet and when i pull it out it makes this loud scaping noise reverse works first gear works i cant use second it slips up hills what is this problem

You need a new clutch set up. You are running on borrowed time with that many miles. The set up costs about $140.00 at NAPA and labor shouldn't be over $200.00. Don't wait too long as you don't want to ruin the flywheel. It is not a difficult job. Good luck

at 300,000 miles do u think it is worth fixing or should i just get a rebuilt clutch thats cheaper thank u for the reply

The NAPA price is for a complete rebuilt clutch set up including the allignment tool. Go with it. Good luck

i just wanted to ask somethin else about the clutch someone told me that if i am still moving the car in reverse an in first gear that it may not be the clutch it may be something else that is causeing second gear to go out something way cheaper than 140.00 and 200 for laber do u really think it could be just somethin else

Believe me there is nothing cheaper than a clutch replacement. Any tranny work will be the cost of R&R the tranny plus, take it apart and repair. If you get out for 1K you will be lucky. When you take the tranny down a clutch replacement will be prudent.

If it is an internal tranny problem the best bet is to buy a good used one. About 1 in 10,000 mechanics can succesfully fix a 5 speed Japanese tranny. They are built to such close tolerances. Good luck
