how to tell if honda civic air filter needs replacing

How can I tell if my 89 honda civic (mileage 115K) air filter needs to be replaced? I seems like Jiffylube is interested in replacing it whether it needs it or not. When they say it needs replacing, it doesn't look very dirty to me.

If it doesn't look dirty then it is probably fine. You still might want to replace it so that you can begin to keep a record on when you have it replaced (usually every 10,000 miles). This way you can be certain if your filter needs to be replaced or not.
