Transmission problem
2005 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 160k miles

I stopped at a store the other day and when i left my car shifted from 1st gear to 3rd no matter how much gas i gave it it kept shifting like that then all of a sudden it would'nt shift at all unless you ran it full throttle so i go home and park it. After a few hours i take it down the road and it's driving just fine except for when it shifts it shifts really hard. Not sure what's going on.

Hhi 05Honda,

Thank you for the donation.

Was any indicator lights showing when the problem occurred?

Get a free scan done at your local Autozone to see if you can retrieve any trouble codes.

No, Nothing ever came on. I actually have a code reader of my own so that was my first thing to go to as well but i never seen a warning light of any kind come on. I held that brakes down and gave it gas and the clutches held fine. Oil level is fine. No smell. I was hoping this was a common problem with these cars. I just don't want to pay someone a thousand dollars to tell me it's something fixed for 50 bucks, you know? Thanks.

Seems the shift solenoids are not working correctly causing the harsh shifting. Did you check the fluid level and condition? When were the fluids last replaced? If you are into DIY, remove the shift solenoids to check for clogging and clean them and retest if problem improves or goes away.
