6 months ago I had my head block ang head gaskets replaced. Within minutes of driving the vehicle the emissions light came on. With numerous visits back to the shop and replacing my egr valve 5 months later they finally realized one of the head gaskets they replaced was put in with no holes drilled in it. They had the gasket sent out and drilled but now my car is sputtering and running very rough when I drive at 60 kms or less. What ramifications has driving my car with a head gasket that was not drilled with holes had on my engine? They now tell me it is carbon billed up. I feel there is more to it. CAn you help?

It depends on what was meant by a hole was not drilled. Head gasket or manifold gasket?

If manifold gasket, then yes, it could be the EGR system that has carbon build up clogging the exhaust passage and affecting the EGR valve lift.

This will cause the engine to misfire at 1500 to 2100 rpm which should be what you described as running rough as the engine is hesitating/jerking.

You need to clear the carbon buildup in the EGR valve and exhaust passage under it.
