2003 Honda Civic Rear brake shoe noise

Rear brake shoes replaced with 25% wear. . Left shoe squeeks and grinds very loud. Checked area 3 times and found no evidence of touching, grinding or inproper installation. Sanded drum and shoes. Drum smooth and not out of round. Lubed backing plate. Facing left shoe assy, wiggled back and forth found clicking noise. can not find source of clicking. Installed drum and quite for couple of days then loud squeeking and grinding again. Used after market shoes. Are honda shoes better?

Hi there,

When doing shoe type brakes, in the past you always had the shoes radius ground to suit the drums, as shoes are bonded and are stock material, you can get a high spot which will quark or thump and generally give a poor brake pedal as well, normally these high spots are cut down quite quickly, but having the shoes radius ground to suite the drums is the correct way to to it. The problem is finding someone who knows how to do it these days and has the equipment as well. Also i will only use OME (original manufactured equipment) brake shoes as they are normally a far better fit.
