2002 honda civic

i have a 2002 honda civic ex 1.7 manual tranny. when i turn the key to start my car it makes one click sound then nutthing. i changed my starter and battery but nutting wat could be wrong i know that the starter works when i put a wire from the battery stright to the starter thats the only way i can start it besides push starting it please help
