my car sometimes runs well and other times it skips so bad it feels like its jerking and it backfires (not loud backfire though). i have put it on the handheld tester and all it says is bank 1 running lean... it is getting worse and of course the engine light is on... any ideas?

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis,finding out what's going on.
