Thanks for your help. I have a 1997 honda civic and it appears the timing belt broke. The car was running great one minute - then just quit. Mechanics say it's most likely the timing belt. if the car has a non-interference engine it's likely the repair will be cost reasonable. If it is an interference engine then the cost goes way up. How can I tell if I have an interference vs. non-interference engine? I've tried to find the information on line but am not making any progress.

Thanks again

Hi Pat,

Unfortunately your car is an Interference engine. But, that doesn't mean the repair will go way up. When the engine just quit did you hear any strange noises. A knock or rattle....

Well pretty much all hondas are interference engines. But most of the time you can just look up the timing parts and it will usually tell you.
