1997 Honda Civic Fuel Injector

I own a 1997 honda civic ex 1.6L V-tec(d16y8). im getting 14 miles to the gallon, not only that it had horrible accelaration and cannot be driven at nothing less than 3000 rpm because if not if feels like its being pushed. and the problem only gets worse as the car heats up. ive changed spark plugs, new timing belt and water pump, air filter and nothing. what could be my problem??

Is your check engine light on?

Was it like this before you put the timing belt on?

Have you tried doing a cylinder balance test?

No my check engine light is not on

Yes it was like this before it got the new timing belt and water pump

How do u perform a cylinder balance test???

Unplug each injector one at a time. When you unplug an injector the engine should bog down and might even stall. If you unplug an injector and the pitch of the engine doesn't change and it doesn't bog down you have found out which cylinder is mis-firing and you can then diagnose the vehicle further.

hi i did what u told me with every injector at a time and they all reacted by bogging the engine back and forth! any other suggestions and thank you so much for your help!

Okay well then I am confident if you get it scanned you will have atleast a pending or history code in there. Something is going on.

OBDII systems (what you have) are very good at catching problems and tripping atleast a pending code (this will not illuminate your light). So get a code reader and scan away!

If not, you may want to look at things such as vacuum leaks, weak fuel pressure, oxygen sensor activity, MAP sensor parameter, etc.

if you do not gie a check engine light could be fuel realated check fuel pressure regulator

Any idea how i can check the fuel pressure regulator without having to spend money on a mechanic??? and could the fuel pump also be in play with this problem??

I have yet to see a fuel pressure regulator fail on your vehicle, if it was the cause of this I would be very surprised. However it doesn't hurt to put on a fuel pressure gauge to measure fuel pressure. This will ensure the pump and the regulator are functioning properly.

Im having the same problem and I can't figure out what it is. The computer says that its a MAP sensor when I replaced it, it does the same thing and the computer still says that its the MAP sensor.

Have u checked the wiring to the MAP? There is a 5V power source, ECU ground and a signal wire that goes to the ECU as well. If all of that is fine, then you must replace the ECU if you have already replaced the MAP and the wiring is intact.

Where is the ECU located?
