1997 Honda Civic Battery and hood latch

I am getting my honda back on the riad after sitting for the winter. I want to put the battery back into the car but over the winter either the latch stopped working or it rusted together. How do I get into my hood to fix the latch? Can I take it off backwards? underneath? through the grill in the front?
