In February of 2008, at 130,889 miles, I had one of my front axle shafts rebuilt in my 1997 Honda Civic.

In March of 2009, at 142,392 miles, the same mechanic told me both my front axles needed to be replaced.

Did the one they rebuilt wear out too quickly? I don't want to pay for something that should have held up longer. I know it's not under warranty, but I will take it somewhere else if it was not done correctly the first time.

Yes. Definitely when turning right going very slow, not sure if I've ever noticed it when turning left.

Your left axle is failing, you should just replace the left axle only, which side did your mechanic rebuild?

Turns out it was both. I took it to a trusted friend who I hadn't been in touch with in a while, and he took care of it professionally, and for a very fair price.
